CASA PART 66.

CASA’s, Part 66 self-study training and examination pathway commenced in August 2021 – Industry have embraced this pathway and are excited about the benefits for both candidates and industry.

The pathway introduces extra flexibility into the Australian aircraft maintenance licensing system. It improves accessibility of licence training for candidates who are:

  • Interested in working and earning an income while studying

  • Looking for flexibility to increase the scope of their licence as they get more experience and pass further exams

  • May not be located near a Part 147 MTO, or unable to be trained and assessed by a Part 147 MTO.

Candidates must undertake Part 66 Basic Knowledge module exams for a particular category or subcategory of licence or modular licence. The following is a summary of the modules required to be completed for the issuance of a licence (per category):

  • Category A: Twelve Modules (out of seventeen)

  • Category B1: Thirteen Modules (out of seventeen)    

  • Category B2: Twelve Modules (out of seventeen)

All Part 66 basic knowledge exams are time based with a pass mark of 75%. They comprise multi-choice examinations (electronic with average duration of 1.25 min per question) and essay exams (paper based with an overall duration of 20 minutes per question).
